On the opening day of the home weekend, Celestino Vietti set a new lap record and took the top spot on the timesheets. A solid performance also from Alonso L\u00f3pez, who closed Day 1 of the San Marino GP in P11, gaining direct access to tomorrow\u2019s Q2.<\/span><\/p>\n

The rider from Ciri\u00e8 started off on the right foot already in FP1, setting the fourth fastest time (1\u201935.323) and immediately showing great confidence with his Boscoscuro and with this track. In the afternoon, Vietti then showcased his potential: after his second pit stop, with less than five minutes remaining, he made the most of his final flying laps, stopping the clock at a brilliant 1\u201934.650. A new lap record, which earned him first place and therefore direct access to Q2.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alonso worked consistently throughout the day. After finishing FP1 in thirteenth place (1\u201935.785), the Spaniard improved in Practice, claiming the eleventh fastest time with a 1\u201935.173 and also securing direct access to tomorrow\u2019s Q2.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/b>\u201cToday, step by step, we managed to improve the feeling with the bike. The eleventh place allowed me to go straight into Q2, and that was the main goal of the day. Now we have a solid base to build from: we know where to intervene to make another step forward, and I\u2019m confident that tomorrow we can be more competitive\u201d.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\n<\/b>\u201cI\u2019m happy because in the last few races we\u2019ve made small steps forward and managed to close the gap a little to the leaders. Today we confirmed that again, so I\u2019m satisfied; also, it\u2019s a track I know well thanks to a lot of training, which is another reason to do well. There are still two or three aspects to improve, but I\u2019d say we\u2019re on the right path.
