#IDNGP – LUNETTA FINISHES 12TH AT THE INDONESIAN GP, VIETTI FORCED TO RETIRE
The seventeenth round of the season, held at the Mandalika International Circuit, ended with contrasting results for the two riders: Luca Lunetta finished the Indonesian Grand Prix in 12th place after a comeback ride, while Celestino Vietti was forced to retire following a crash in the early stages of the race.
The race was immediately disrupted by an incident at Turn 1 on the opening lap, involving several riders near the front of the field and requiring the red flag to be shown. Following the quick restart procedure, the race resumed over a reduced distance of 14 laps instead of the original 22.
Starting from 18th on the grid, Luca Lunetta focused on finding the right pace during the opening laps before gradually increasing his speed and making up several positions. A determined and consistent comeback allowed him to cross the finish line in 12th place and secure four valuable points. The result is also important in the Rookie of the Year battle, where every point could prove decisive.
It was a disappointing end to the weekend for Celestino Vietti. The #13 rider crashed at Turn 10 on lap three. Despite attempting to rejoin the race and continue riding to gather data and work on the bike, Vietti completed another four laps before returning to the pits and bringing his race to an end. An unfortunate outcome that leaves him without any points from the Indonesian weekend.
CELESTINO VIETTI #13: DNF
“Unfortunately, it was a difficult race, which ended earlier than expected following the crash at Turn 10. I tried to get back on the bike and continue riding to gather useful information for our work on the bike, but in the end, we decided to return to the pits. It’s a shame to finish the weekend without any points. We’ll now analyse the data collected and work to prepare as well as possible for the next round”.
LUCA LUNETTA #32: P12
“It was a challenging race, especially after the restart, but I’m happy to have made up several positions and finished 12th. At the beginning, I needed a few laps to find the right pace, but I gradually felt more comfortable and became more competitive in the overtaking battles. We’re taking home four important points, which is a real boost to morale”.
