FROM P21 TO P9: VIETTI FINISHES THE MALAYSIAN GP IN THE POINTS. LUNETTA RETIRES AFTER A CRASH
The Malaysian Grand Prix ends with mixed fortunes for the Beta Tools SpeedRS Team: on one side, Celestino Vietti’s impressive comeback, recovering several positions to cross the finish line in ninth place; on the other, Luca Lunetta’s unfortunate crash, which forced him to retire from the race prematurely.
Starting from 21st on the grid, Vietti approached the opening stages aggressively, quickly climbing up to 16th position. However, after just a few corners, contact with another rider forced him to lose ground, dropping him back to the tail of the field in 21st place. From that moment on, Celestino responded with determination, beginning a comeback built lap after lap. Maintaining a consistent and competitive pace, he gradually recovered positions, delivering a strong performance to cross the finish line in ninth place.
A difficult race, instead, for Luca Lunetta. Starting from 18th on the grid, the #32 rider made a good start, immediately moving up to 13th position and showing encouraging pace. His chances of continuing the comeback came to an abrupt end on lap four, when a crash forced him to retire, preventing him from capitalising on the potential shown during the opening stages of the race and scoring valuable points.
CELESTINO VIETTI #13: P9
“Starting from 21st position was certainly not easy, but from the very first laps I tried to recover as many positions as possible. Unfortunately, after a good start, contact with another rider made me lose ground again, forcing me to fight my way back from the rear of the field. From there, I focused on staying concentrated and finding my rhythm, managing to recover positions lap after lap and eventually finishing ninth. It was a great comeback and I’m happy with the result, especially considering where we started. Now our focus is on the next round”.

“A bit of a disappointing Sunday. We had the potential to finish at least inside the top 10. We made a lot of progress throughout the weekend, despite completely missing out on one practice session. Our lap times at the beginning of the race were very good, and we also had a strong race pace in terms of tyre management. It’s a shame that the crash at Turn 9 brought our race to an end while we were in the middle of a comeback: starting from 18th, I had already managed to move up to 13th after just a few laps. Nevertheless, we take all the positives from this weekend, knowing the work we’ve done and looking forward to continuing to improve and learn ahead of Qatar. A big thank you to the whole team for their support!”.
