La stagione 2026 è iniziata al Chang International Circuit, con il Sync Group SpeedRS Team che archivia il venerdì del ThaiGP con Celestino Vietti direttamente in Q2 e l’esordiente Luca Lunetta impegnato nel suo percorso di adattamento alla Moto2, ventunesimo al termine della giornata.

Vietti ha affrontato la FP1 senza effettuare soste per il cambio gomme, concentrandosi su costanza e passo gara e chiudendo in P18 con il tempo di 1’35.985. Nel pomeriggio, con temperature ancora elevate, la Practice decisiva per l’accesso diretto alla Q2 ha visto il pilota di Ciriè sfruttare al meglio la gomma nuova: il 1’34.883 firmato al terzo giro lanciato gli ha permesso di conquistare il nono posto e assicurarsi l’ingresso diretto in Q2.

Dall’altra parte del box, Lunetta ha mostrato subito segnali positivi, chiudendo la FP1 in dodicesima posizione con un crono di 1’35.786 e confermando un buon feeling nel suo weekend di debutto in Moto2 con il team. Nella Practice, il pilota numero 32 non è riuscito a trovare immediatamente il riferimento sul giro secco, ma la sessione si è rivelata comunque costruttiva, con un lavoro mirato sulla frenata e sull’adattamento dello stile di guida su un tracciato tecnico ed esigente. Luca ha concluso la prova del pomeriggio in P21 con il tempo di 1’35.504 e domani sarà chiamato ad affrontare la Q1.

“È stato un buon inizio. Abbiamo confermato il feeling positivo che avevamo già riscontrato nei test. Dobbiamo lavorare ancora su alcuni dettagli per adattarci al meglio alle condizioni di grip e alle alte temperature che stiamo trovando qui, ma la base è solida. Siamo direttamente in Q2 e domani cercheremo di concludere una buona giornata”.

LUCA LUNETTA #32: 21° in 1’35.504

“Sono contento della giornata. È stato un inizio impegnativo dal punto di vista dello stress generale, essendo il mio primo giorno in questa nuova categoria. Non è stato semplice gestire tutto, ma nel complesso resto molto positivo per i prossimi giorni. Penso che possiamo fare un ottimo lavoro. Ora dobbiamo analizzare bene la telemetria, capire come guidare al meglio la moto e, soprattutto, migliorare in frenata, dove abbiamo ancora margine di crescita”.

DAY 1 THAI GP: VIETTI SECURES Q2, LUNETTA CONTINUES TO ADAPT

The 2026 season kicked off at the Chang International Circuit, with the Sync Group SpeedRS Team wrapping up Friday at the Thai GP with Celestino Vietti directly through to Q2 and rookie Luca Lunetta continuing his adaptation process to Moto2, finishing twenty-first at the end of the day.

Vietti completed FP1 without making any tyre changes, focusing on consistency and race pace, and closed the session in P18 with a time of 1’35.985. In the afternoon, despite still high temperatures, the decisive Practice session for direct access to Q2 saw the rider from Ciriè make the most of a new tyre. His 1’34.883, set on his third flying lap, secured ninth place and a direct spot in Q2.

On the other side of the garage, Lunetta immediately showed positive signs, finishing FP1 in twelfth position with a 1’35.786, confirming a good feeling in his debut Moto2 weekend with the team. In Practice, the number 32 rider was unable to immediately find the reference on a single flying lap, but the session proved constructive nonetheless, with focused work on braking and adapting his riding style to a technical and demanding circuit. Luca ended the afternoon session in P21 with a 1’35.504 and will have to go through Q1 tomorrow.

“It was a good start. We confirmed the positive feeling we already had during testing. We still need to work on a few details to adapt as best as possible to the grip conditions and the high temperatures we’re finding here, but the base is solid. We’re directly into Q2 and tomorrow we’ll try to put together another good day”.

“I’m happy with the day. It was a demanding start from a general stress point of view, as it was my first day in this new category. It wasn’t easy to manage everything, but overall I remained very positive for the next few days. I think we can do a great job. Now we need to carefully analyse the data, understand how to ride the bike at our best and, above all, improve under braking, where we still have room to grow”.
